A video message was released by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh just before his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy case. In the video message, he expressed his determination to continue raising his voice against corruption, even in the face of the atrocities he was enduring.
Sanjay Singh did not hold back in his criticism of the central government and boldly asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would face a significant defeat in the upcoming elections.
The federal probe agency had conducted a raid at Sanjay Singh's residence in connection with the excise policy case, eventually leading to his arrest following 10 hours of questioning.
Sanjay Singh voiced his concerns, saying, "I have consistently spoken out against the corruption of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gautam Adani, and others. I have even lodged several complaints with the ED regarding Adani's corruption, but no action has been taken. However, today, the ED suddenly conducted a raid on my house. Despite finding nothing, they are still arresting me."
He continued, "Modiji, you will face a resounding defeat in the elections. The actions of the ED illustrate how a fearful and authoritarian Prime Minister resorts to arresting individuals to secure electoral victories. I have stated this before, and I reiterate it now: I am willing to face anything, even death, but I will not succumb to fear," proclaimed the AAP MP.
Sanjay Singh is the second prominent AAP leader, following Manish Sisodia, to be arrested in connection with a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scandal. Additionally, AAP's Satyendar Jain is currently in custody in connection with another money laundering case.
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal criticized Sanjay Singh's arrest as "entirely unlawful" and speculated that more opposition leaders would be arrested in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.
"The arrest of Sanjay Singh is completely illegal. This shows (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji's nervousness. They will arrest many more opposition leaders until the elections," declared the AAP's national convener in a statement on X.
Kejriwal also characterized the ED raids at Sanjay Singh's residence as the "final desperate attempt" of a party that was facing defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He reassured that while such raids might continue to occur, there was no reason to be fearful.
