BJP responds after Udaynidhi denounces 'Jai Shri Ram' chants during the India-Pakistan match

DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister Udaynidhi Stalin has expressed his disapproval of cricket enthusiasts chanting "Jai Sri Ram" slogans during the India versus Pakistan match in Ahmedabad, labeling it as "unacceptable and a new low." In contrast, the BJP criticized the DMK minister for objecting to the use of the Hindu religious slogan.

A purported video depicting cricket fans chanting "Jai Sri Ram" during the October 14 India versus Pakistan match gained significant attention on social media.

The video captured some fans taunting Pakistan's batsman, Rizwan Khan, as he made his way back to the pavilion.

Udaynidhi Stalin condemned the incident and conveyed his sentiments in a post on X, stating, "India is renowned for its sportsmanship and hospitality. However, the treatment experienced by Pakistan players at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is unacceptable and represents a new low. Sports should serve as a unifying force between nations, fostering genuine brotherhood. Using it as a means to propagate hatred is deserving of condemnation."

The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) responded strongly to Udaynidhi's comments.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, in a post on X, remarked, "The hateful dengue malaria mosquito (Udaynidhi Stalin) has emerged once more to spread toxicity. When a match is halted and prayers are offered on the field, you don't seem to have an issue. Our Lord Shri Ram is revered in every corner of the universe; chanting Jai Shri Ram is entirely appropriate."
