case involving AMU students who participated in a march in support of Palestine

Four students from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) are facing legal action as a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against them for organizing a rally in support of Palestine during the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. In addition to these four named students, an unspecified number of individuals have also been included in the case.

The rally gained attention after a video of the event, featuring students vocally endorsing Palestine, circulated widely on social media. The students identified in the FIR are Khalid, Kamran, Naved Choudhary, and Aatif.

The FIR specifically notes that the rally was carried out without the necessary authorization. Mrigank Pathak, Aligarh's Superintendent of Police (City), informed India Today that they received information about the student protest within the AMU campus, which concerned an international matter and lacked prior permission.

Legal action has been taken under Sections 155A, 188, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to issues of hostility and animosity between various communities.

The AMU administration has also expressed its intent to take stringent measures against the involved students and organizers in accordance with the law.

The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has been marked by the surprise attack launched by the Hamas terrorist group on October 7, involving unprecedented infiltration into Israeli towns and violence against civilians. Numerous videos posted on social media have depicted Hamas militants committing acts of violence in Israel, including gruesome incidents within private residences.

The Hamas militants have also taken hostages, including foreign nationals. In response, Israel has initiated 'Operation Iron Swords.' As a result of the continuing conflict, the death toll has surpassed 1,100 individuals in both Israel and Palestine.
