China opposes attacks and violence in the Middle East conflict, according to the foreign ministry

China has expressed deep concern regarding the recent escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and has firmly stated its opposition to violence and attacks, according to a statement made by a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Monday.

The spokesperson, Mao Ning, underscored China's position, emphasizing its opposition to actions that contribute to the escalation of conflicts and the erosion of regional stability. Mao stated during a regular press briefing that China ardently desires to witness a swift ceasefire, an end to hostilities, and the re-establishment of peace.

In response to the intensification of the situation, Israel conducted a series of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the loss of numerous lives. These actions were carried out in retaliation for one of the most devastating attacks in Israel's history, during which the Islamist group Hamas claimed the lives of 700 Israelis and took dozens hostage.

Mao emphasized the vital role of the international community in addressing the crisis and urged for concerted efforts to de-escalate tensions. He articulated China's view that the only viable resolution to the persistent Palestinian-Israeli conflict lies in the resumption of peace negotiations, the implementation of the two-state solution, and the pursuit of a comprehensive and equitable settlement of the Palestinian issue through diplomatic means. This approach would involve addressing the legitimate concerns of all involved parties.

Furthermore, the Chinese foreign ministry expressed its deep sorrow over the civilian casualties incurred during the conflict. It issued a plea to Chinese citizens who may be traveling to the affected area, urging them to closely monitor the local security conditions and exercise caution.

To provide support and assistance to Chinese citizens and institutions in both the Palestinian territories and Israel, the foreign ministry confirmed that it had swiftly activated its consular protection emergency response measures. This measure is intended to ensure the safety and well-being of Chinese nationals and entities amid the escalating crisis.
