Conflict in Deoria, UP, results in 6 deaths and multiple injuries due to a land dispute

A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria as two opposing groups clashed violently, resulting in the loss of six lives and injuries to numerous others. The confrontation stemmed from a longstanding dispute over land ownership, leading to the unfortunate escalation of hostilities. The aftermath of the clash saw damage to several vehicles and instances of arson within the district.

The dispute initially ignited between two individuals, Ramashish Yadav and Shashibhushan Chauhan, when Yadav began demarcating boundaries around his property. A complicating factor was that the route to Yadav's land passed through Chauhan's residence, a retired Border Security Force (BSF) officer. Chauhan contended that Yadav had encroached upon a portion of his land for his own development purposes, intensifying the disagreement.

Tensions flared, culminating in a physical altercation, which ultimately led to both groups resorting to gunfire during the confrontation. Consequently, several individuals sustained injuries during the melee, and they are presently undergoing medical treatment at Devraha Baba Medical College.

To mitigate the situation, a fire brigade unit promptly arrived at the scene, successfully extinguishing the fires that had engulfed some vehicles.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) for Deoria, Sankalp Sharma, personally conducted an investigation at the site. It was reported that both opposing groups suffered injuries, and authorities have detained certain individuals for questioning. The current situation at the scene is reported to be under control, with ongoing investigations.

Expressing profound sadness over the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. The Chief Minister has issued directives for the immediate transportation of the injured to hospitals, emphasizing their proper and speedy treatment. Additionally, he has wished for the swift recovery of those who sustained injuries.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister has instructed district administration officials to extend all possible assistance to the families affected by this tragedy. He has also mandated that the Commissioner/Inspector General (IG) take swift and stringent measures in response to the situation.

Notably, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is actively monitoring the situation personally, underscoring the gravity and seriousness with which the state government is treating this unfortunate incident.
