Cyclone Tej will weaken and develop into a cyclonic storm from a depression over the Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the deep depression, which originated over the Bay of Bengal, is anticipated to undergo intensification and transform into a cyclonic storm by Monday evening. Subsequent to its formation, this cyclonic storm will be designated as 'Hamoon'.

Meanwhile, the IMD has conveyed that Cyclone 'Tej', which progressed into an extremely severe cyclonic storm on Sunday, is projected to weaken and become a very severe cyclonic storm.

It is predicted that this cyclone will make landfall along the Yemen-Oman coast between Al Ghaidah in Yemen and Salalah in Oman during the early hours of October 24. The weather agency has categorized it as a very severe cyclonic storm.

The deep depression was initially situated in the west-central part of the Bay of Bengal and subsequently moved in a northeastward direction on Sunday night.

The IMD's morning bulletin notes, "Within the next 12 hours, there is a likelihood that it will intensify into a cyclonic storm. Its expected trajectory is north-northeastward, with a forecasted landfall on the Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around the evening of October 25, in the form of a deep depression."

In response to this development, the Odisha government has issued directives to all district collectors, urging them to be prepared for various scenarios. Furthermore, local authorities have been instructed to conduct the evacuation of residents from low-lying areas should heavy rainfall become a concern.

The department overseeing fisheries and animal resources development has issued a cautionary advisory to fishermen, discouraging them from venturing into deep-sea areas. Coastal regions of the state should expect rainfall over the next two days.

Additionally, the IMD anticipates light to moderate rainfall in the regions of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, and the coastal districts of West Bengal.
