Following the apprehension of three highly sought-after terrorists in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the Delhi Police Special Cell has disclosed that the mastermind behind these arrested terrorists is a certain Farhatullah Ghori, a 60-year-old fugitive extremist affiliated with the Islamic State (IS). Currently residing in Pakistan, Ghori is purportedly responsible for orchestrating online recruitment activities aimed at jihadists, according to the police.
Additionally, it has come to light that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) created a facade of an India-focused ISIS to carry out terror activities within India while evading international scrutiny, using Farhatullah Ghori as a key figure in this strategy.
Farhatullah Ghori, who also goes by aliases such as Abu Sufyan, Sardar Sahab, and Faru, has been linked to several high-profile attacks, including the 2002 assault on the Akshardham Temple and the 2005 suicide attack on the Task Force office in Hyderabad. Designated as a terrorist by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ghori is wanted by Indian law enforcement agencies.
Sources have revealed that the recent arrest of Mohammad Shahnawaz Alam, one of the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) most-wanted terrorists, along with his two associates, members of an IS-sponsored module, has shed light on Ghori's activities. This revelation has exposed his involvement in radicalizing Indian youth for online jihad from his sanctuary in Pakistan.
Originally from Gujarat, Ghori's online activities have drawn scrutiny as he has been found posting speeches on YouTube aimed at indoctrinating Indian youth into participating in jihad. His online content serves as a platform for attempting to radicalize young individuals.
A video statement released just two days prior features the voice of Farhatullah Ghori, accompanied by images of Indian Mujahideen terrorists who had reportedly escaped from the Batla House encounter site. This video functions as a "cautionary message for active brothers" and provides guidance to aspiring jihadists regarding their actions and behavior.
In a related development, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested three suspected Islamic State (IS) terrorists. The arrested individuals, namely Mohammad Shahnawaz Alam, also known as Abdullah, Mohammad Rizwan Ashraf, and Mohammad Arshad Warsi, are engineering graduates. They were in contact with their handler based in Pakistan, Farhatullah Ghori. While Shahnawaz was apprehended in Jaipur, Delhi, Mohammad Rizwan Ashraf and Mohammad Arshad Warsi were arrested in Lucknow and Moradabad, respectively.
