Shehla Rashid, the former Vice President of the student union at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), has expressed her appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Indian Army, and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for their contributions to ensuring "long-term peace and security" in the region. Her words of praise come at a time when an ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group in the Middle East has resulted in significant casualties on both sides and a large-scale displacement of the population.
Using X (formerly Twitter) as her platform, Rashid conveyed her realization of the fortunate situation in India amid the ongoing global turmoil. She acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Indian Army and security forces in upholding safety and peace, giving credit where it is due for their role in establishing peace in Kashmir.
In a subsequent tweet, Rashid emphasized the significance of security as a prerequisite for peace, drawing insights from the Middle East crisis. She noted that the Indian Army, along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the courageous personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has made remarkable sacrifices to ensure enduring peace and security in the region.
It's noteworthy that Rashid has recently shown support for the government led by Prime Minister Modi, commending the central government and the administration of Jammu and Kashmir for their advancements in improving the "human rights record" in the Valley during the month of August. She emphasized the utilitarian aspect of the government's stance in terms of saving lives overall. This shift in perspective marks a change in Rashid's previous criticism of the Prime Minister.
