According to the recent directive, Bihar Police will offer monetary rewards to individuals who provide information pertaining to various illegal activities, including bootlegging, unauthorized sand mining, dissemination of hate messages on social media, and cyber frauds that result in the apprehension of wrongdoers.
The latest circular from the state home department, issued on Tuesday, underscores the essential role of the public, particularly confidential informants, in combating these offenses.
The circular states, "The police will recognize and reward those who assist in apprehending criminals engaged in illicit sand mining, bootlegging, cybercriminal activities, and individuals or organizations exploiting social media platforms to propagate hate and intolerance."
As per the order, the Director General of Police (DGP) has the authority to announce rewards of up to Rs 3 lakh. The order further specifies that if the reward exceeds Rs 3 lakh, the final decision will rest with the home department, which will base its decision on recommendations from the DGP.
The order outlines reward amounts for various ranks within the police force, indicating that additional director generals (ADGs) can announce rewards of up to Rs 1 lakh, inspector general (IG)--rank officers can offer rewards of up to Rs 50,000, and superintendents of police (SPs) can provide rewards of up to Rs 25,000.
In response to the increasing incidents of violent attacks by sand mafia, which have resulted in injuries to police personnel and senior officers, district authorities in Bhagalpur, Saran, Nawada, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Bhojpur, and Gaya have been directed to intensify efforts to combat illegal sand mining.
A senior police officer noted that cases of such violent attacks by the sand mafia have been on the rise in districts such as Patna, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Saran, and Vaishali.
