Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren directed his criticisms towards the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) during a gathering in Chaibasa, following his summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged money laundering case involving a land scam.
Soren had been called by the ED to appear at their central office in Ranchi on August 14 and on subsequent dates for the purpose of recording his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. However, the Jharkhand Chief Minister did not comply with these summons.
Addressing the audience in Chaibasa, Soren expressed his sentiments by stating, “We will see, the people of Jharkhand will take on you (BJP) with more strength if you make the mistake of sending me to jail.”
Additionally, he emphasized his decision to engage in an "all-out" battle against the BJP-led central government.
Soren's assertive remarks came on the heels of the Jharkhand High Court's rejection of his petition, which contested the ED's issuance of summons to him for this case.
In response to the Chief Minister's strong statements, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo characterized Soren as being "skeptical" regarding the ED's summons. Shahdeo further questioned Soren's avoidance of these summons and commented, "If he (Soren) has not committed anything wrong, then he should face the ED bravely."
