Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan heralded the international deepwater multipurpose seaport in Vizhinjam as a transformative and pivotal development for the state's infrastructure and growth. This pronouncement comes as the international port readied itself to welcome its inaugural ship on Sunday.
He expressed that this ambitious project aspires to handle a staggering one million containers annually, thereby outpacing even the renowned port of Singapore in its container handling capacity.
Taking to his social media platform recently, the Chief Minister excitedly revealed that the maiden vessel, named 'Zhen Hua 15,' was scheduled to arrive at the Vizhinjam port on October 15. This announcement was accompanied by a brief video presentation showcasing the port's facilities and readiness.
The Chief Minister's vision for the Vizhinjam Port extends to making it a hub that not only draws substantial investments but also serves as a prolific generator of employment opportunities. This, in turn, is anticipated to make a substantial contribution to the nation's progress and standing.
'Zhen Hua 15' embarked on its journey from China at the end of August and was initially slated to dock at Vizhinjam on October 4. However, inclement weather conditions along its route caused delays.
To commemorate the historic maiden call of 'Zhen Hua 15' at the port, the state government has decided to orchestrate a grand celebration. The inaugural ceremony will be graced by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who will inaugurate the proceedings. Furthermore, Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, will be present as the chief guest for this momentous event.
