In Ankara, a suicide explosion outside the Turkish Parliament building injured 2 police officers


On Sunday, Turkey's interior minister reported that a bomb attack occurred in front of the ministry buildings in the heart of Ankara, the capital of Turkey. The attack took place just hours before parliament was set to reopen following a summer recess.

According to Minister Ali Yerlikaya, two terrorists were involved in the attack. One of the terrorists perished in the explosion, while the other was "neutralized" by the authorities. During the attack, two police officers sustained minor injuries, as per Yerlikaya's statement on X.

Initially, Turkish media outlets had reported the sound of an explosion in the vicinity of parliament and ministerial buildings. News broadcasts showed images of debris strewn across a street near the Interior Ministry.

According to Minister Yerlikaya, the terrorists arrived at the scene in a light commercial vehicle. He explained, "Two terrorists came with a light commercial vehicle in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Internal Affairs and carried out a bomb attack."

Television footage captured bomb squads working near a parked vehicle in the vicinity. The area in question is situated near the Turkish Grand National Assembly and various other government structures. As a precaution, the police cordoned off access to the city center.

Currently, there is no available information regarding the identities or affiliations of the assailants.
