In Manipur's Imphal East district, the police conducted search operations on Thursday, resulting in the seizure of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition.
The security forces organized these search operations in the border regions and areas considered susceptible in Kakching, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur districts. These operations yielded a substantial discovery of arms, ammunition, and various equipment, primarily retrieved from the Wakan, Shantipur, and Khamenlok ridges.
This significant haul comprised 36 firearms, including advanced weapons such as AK-47/56 rifles, improvised rifles, carbine machine guns, lathode launchers, and revolvers. Furthermore, a collection of 1615 ammunitions and explosives was confiscated, encompassing INSAS Rifles, hand grenades, detonators, and locally made pistols. Additionally, a total of 132 pieces of equipment were part of the findings during the thorough search operation.
To facilitate legal procedures, the recovered items were handed over to the Sagolmang police station.
The search operations have persisted in the border areas and regions susceptible to violence since May 3, 2023.
