In the midst of the Israel-Hamas conflict, the US launches missile defense systems around the Middle East

Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, another significant development has unfolded as Hezbollah, with Iranian support, initiated a series of missile and rocket attacks on the northern Israeli border. The purpose of these attacks is to caution Tel Aviv against any attempt to enter the besieged Gaza Strip. This ongoing escalation has raised concerns about the potential for a more extensive conflict in the Middle East.

In response to these rising tensions, the United States has taken several proactive measures to enhance regional security and deter any further escalation. The US recently deployed two aircraft carriers to the Eastern Mediterranean in a bid to prevent Iran and its regional allies from expanding the conflict. Additionally, the Pentagon has issued alerts for possible troop deployments in the region, though specific numbers were not disclosed by US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin.

According to Austin, these measures serve to strengthen regional deterrence efforts, enhance the protection of US forces operating in the area, and contribute to the defence of Israel. The United States is particularly concerned about the potential involvement of Iran's proxies in the conflict, potentially leading to further attacks on Israel.

Notably, recent reports have indicated that Houthi rebels in Yemen launched three missiles toward Israel, which were intercepted and neutralized by the US warship USS Carney in the Red Sea. As the Israel-Hamas conflict enters its sixteenth day, the toll on human lives has been devastating, with over 4,300 Palestinians, including numerous children, losing their lives in the relentless Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. This escalation followed shocking attacks by Hamas in southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,400 individuals and injuries to 3,000 others.
