The Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan has expressed its dissatisfaction with the police's handling of the petrol bomb attack that occurred at Raj Bhavan. The statement from Raj Bhavan, issued on Thursday, pointed out that the police failed to register its complaint regarding the incident. It accused the police of downplaying the attack, categorizing it as mere vandalism, and contended that the investigation had been prematurely hindered.
On the preceding day, an individual had thrown a Molotov cocktail, commonly referred to as a 'petrol bomb,' at the main gate of Raj Bhavan, which serves as the official residence of Governor RN Ravi.
In its statement, Raj Bhavan conveyed, "The Police did not officially record Raj Bhavan's complaint concerning the attack. Instead, they took the initiative to categorize the attack as a simple act of vandalism and hastily arranged for the accused's detention in the middle of the night, arousing the magistrate from sleep and thereby preventing a thorough interrogation that could have unveiled those responsible for the attack."
According to the Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan, this premature handling has effectively thwarted any prospects of a fair and unbiased investigation into the incident.
The opposition parties, including the AIADMK and BJP, criticized the DMK-led state government for its response to the incident that took place outside the official residence of the State Governor. The BJP has called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the matter.
In contrast, the ruling DMK expressed its condemnation of the incident and affirmed its commitment to preventing any untoward occurrences that could tarnish the reputation of the government.
