In Uttar Pradesh, a prisoner broadcasts live on Facebook from inside a police truck

In the Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh, a startling incident occurred where an inmate, Lokendra, also known as Karatus Yadav, who is currently incarcerated at the Mahoba District Jail, was being transported to court in a police van. The purpose of this court appearance was in connection with an attempted murder case that took place on October 21. It's important to note that Yadav already had a criminal record, with FIR number 251 registered at the Panwadi police station in 2021, under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

During this journey to the court, Yadav decided to live-stream his thoughts and actions on Facebook via a mobile phone. This broadcast on Facebook Live has garnered significant attention on social media since it shows Yadav making open threats and hurling abusive language towards his adversaries.

The police van that transported Yadav to the court had a sub-inspector and three constables on board at the time. This episode has led to serious consequences, with both legal and administrative actions being taken. Yadav will now face another legal case concerning his involvement in this incident, and the police officers who were on duty during the incident have been suspended from their positions. This incident serves as a striking example of how social media can be used to propagate threats and abuse even within the confines of the criminal justice system, highlighting the challenges faced by law enforcement authorities in managing such situations.
