India will now seek for concrete results now that P20 and G20 are done

The P20 Summit (P20 group of parliamentarians representing G20 nations) in India has concluded successfully, and the nation is now actively working toward fulfilling the tasks it has undertaken. In light of the global landscape, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla have emphasized the vital importance of multilateralism.

During his opening speech, Prime Minister Modi called for a unified stance against terrorism worldwide, emphasizing that a divided world cannot effectively address the issues that humanity faces. He stressed the necessity of defining and unequivocally condemning terrorism, making it clear that any act of terrorism, regardless of its motivation or form, is fundamentally against humanity. He urged the world to unite against this common threat.

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, echoed this sentiment during his discussions with world leaders, emphasizing the need for global unity in combating terrorism. He expressed India's dissatisfaction with a recent proposal brought forth in the European Parliament, which touched upon India's internal matters. Birla underscored the principle of national sovereignty and conveyed that the internal issues of a sovereign nation should not be subject to external discussions.

Throughout the P20 Summit, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla engaged in ten bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event. During his meeting with Valentina Matvienko, the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, both sides acknowledged the longstanding and strong relations between India and Russia and how they have supported each other during times of crisis.

In a bilateral meeting with Numan Kurtulmus of Turkey, Om Birla mentioned 'Operation Dost' as a symbol of India's friendship toward Turkey. He also inquired about the nation's recovery from the recent earthquake damage.

The P20 represents a collective of influential parliamentarians from G20 nations who play a critical role in shaping global policies and decisions. The countries have collectively agreed to collaborate on issues such as sustainable development goals, women-led development, green energy, and digital public infrastructure. India is committed to following up on these shared goals with the world's top countries. While India has passed the presidency to Brazil, it remains committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goals, women-led development, green energy, and digital public infrastructure to achieve concrete outcomes on these fronts.

Om Birla expressed that the insightful discussions and contributions made during the sessions on Sustainable Development Goals, green energy, women-led development, and digital public infrastructure will further bolster the G-20 process aimed at human-centered development.

Over the past year, since India assumed the G20 Presidency, there has been an emphasis on multilateralism. Om Birla noted that in today's interconnected world, one cannot examine any issue in isolation. Parliamentarians from around the world who participated in the P20 Summit showed their collective support for Paragraph 27 of the joint statement, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue as a means of promoting international peace, prosperity, and harmony while supporting peaceful conflict resolution.

The P20 Summit has underscored India's increasing significance on the global stage, reaffirming the nation's role and influence in addressing key global challenges, including poverty, inequality, terrorism, and climate change. India is actively participating in the global dialogue and remains committed to contributing to global peace, prosperity, and development.
