Israel's Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, marked India's triumph in the ICC World Cup 2023 contest against Pakistan in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Taking a swipe at Pakistan for its stance on Palestine, Gilon conveyed his thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, "We take pleasure in India's success in the India vs. Pakistan match at CWC23, and Pakistan was unable to attribute its victory to the terrorists of Hamas."
Furthermore, he shared images illustrating individuals displaying posters expressing support for Israel and conveyed, "We were deeply touched by Indian friends demonstrating their solidarity with Israel by showcasing posters during the match."
These comments directed at Pakistan emerged following Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Rizwan's dedication of his century in the World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka to "brothers and sisters in Gaza."
The Israeli ambassador had previously expressed his appreciation for the support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and suggested that another Israeli Defence Force (IDF) could be formed with the assistance of Indian volunteers.
In the meantime, Pakistan has consistently vocalized its backing for Palestine, with its representative to the United Nations, Zaman Mehdi, criticizing Israel's declaration of war following the Hamas attacks on October 7. During an address to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Mehdi remarked, "The so-called declaration of war and assaults on the civilian population and their property are profoundly disconcerting."
Across Pakistan, numerous individuals staged demonstrations subsequent to Friday prayers to express their solidarity with Palestinians and to denounce the Israeli forces' blockade of Gaza. They also burned the Israeli flag to protest the escalating Palestinian casualties in Gaza.
It is important to note that Pakistan does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel and has declined to acknowledge it as a sovereign nation until the establishment of the state of Palestine.
