Jammu and Kashmir: Security personnel thwart an attempt to infiltrate Uri

Security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Uri Sector, Baramulla. This operation was a result of heightened vigilance in response to specific intelligence gathered by agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which indicated that armed terrorists were making an effort to infiltrate from across the Line of Control (LoC). In light of these inputs, the Army activated its counter-infiltration grid and intensified its surveillance measures.

In this scenario, a group of heavily armed terrorists attempted to cross the LoC and infiltrate the region, capitalizing on the unfavourable weather conditions caused by continuous rainfall in the area, resulting in reduced visibility in the hilly terrain.

The security forces intercepted the terrorists at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, leading to an intense exchange of fire. According to the Army, the skirmish was fierce, and by late night, two terrorists had been neutralized. There were other individuals in the group of terrorists who chose to retreat and return to the enemy territory, carrying the bodies of the two deceased individuals with them.

Throughout the night, the Army remained on high alert, maintaining strict surveillance over the area. On the morning of October 22, an extensive search operation was conducted by the Army personnel. During this operation, the security forces recovered a substantial cache of war-like materials, which included two AK series rifles, six pistols, four Chinese grenades, blankets, and two bags stained with blood containing both Pakistani and Indian currency notes. Additionally, the terrorists were found to be in possession of medicines produced in Pakistan and various food items.

It is presumed that the two blood-stained bags may have contained the blood of the two terrorists who were potentially injured and, as a result, were compelled to abandon their belongings and retreat across the LoC. Despite temporarily suspending the search operation due to adverse weather conditions, the Army plans to resume its efforts as soon as the weather clears.
