A 41-year-old individual was apprehended by the Bengaluru Police in Karnataka's Davanagere district for the act of dispatching threatening letters to more than 15 progressive Kannada authors and intellectuals.
This arrest was carried out by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), and the suspect in question is Shivaji Rao Jadhav. While it is established that he had affiliations with a Hindu group, the specific identity of this group was not disclosed by the police.
Over the span of two years, the accused engaged in a consistent pattern of sending these threatening missives. Consequently, the targeted authors felt compelled to hold multiple meetings with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging decisive action against the individual responsible.
In these written communiqués, Jadhav issued warnings to writers such as K Veerabhadrappa, BL Venu, Banjagere Jayaprakash, BT Lalita Naik, and Vasundhara Bhupathi regarding their opposition to Hindutva, insinuating that their days were numbered. The letters were signed with the pseudonym 'Sahishna Hindu,' which translates to 'tolerant Hindu.'
