Congress party members in Kerala organized widespread protests in response to the BJP's portrayal of Rahul Gandhi as a 'modern-day Ravan' in a social media poster. Demonstrators marched, obstructed roadways, and burned effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their protests.
In Thiruvananthapuram, Congress supporters embarked on a march from Martyr's Square to the BJP state office, where they were met by police barricades. During these protests, slogans were chanted against Prime Minister Modi and the BJP. Law enforcement officers had to employ water cannons on three separate occasions to disperse the demonstrators.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief K. Sudhakaran asserted that the BJP and affiliated Sangh Parivar groups were anxious about Rahul Gandhi, prompting them to depict him as Ravan and incite violence against him.
Sudhakaran elaborated on this, stating, "The BJP camp has initiated a campaign against Rahul Gandhi, especially as the popularity of Narendra Modi is diminishing and the BJP's significance is diminishing on the national stage. The image shared on the BJP's official social media platform, portraying Rahul Gandhi as Ravan, is a grave matter. Through this, the BJP has essentially issued a call for endangering Rahul Gandhi's life."
He further emphasized that the Congress party is taking this issue seriously, and party members across the country will not permit such actions.
Sudhakaran called upon the nation's "secular democrats" to voice their opposition to the BJP's "incitement of violence."
In response, BJP members in the state capital also organized a protest against the Congress, asserting their unwillingness to tolerate anything against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
