An officer from the Kerala Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has faced suspension due to his involvement in aiding gold smugglers on numerous occasions and, in return, accepting bribes for his illicit actions.
The scandal emerged when the accused, CISF Assistant Commandant Naveen Kumar, made an attempt to facilitate the smuggling of gold at the Calicut International Airport. Following this event, the Malappuram Police initiated a case against Kumar under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Upon the registration of the case, the Director General of the CISF promptly suspended the implicated officer.
The allegations against Kumar reveal that he collaborated with a customs officer and another individual named Sharafali, who was an outsourced employee responsible for handling luggage, in order to facilitate gold smuggling on approximately 60 occasions.
According to law enforcement officials, for each successful smuggling operation, a sum of Rs 60,000 was received, of which Rs 55,000 was channeled to Kumar, who subsequently shared this compensation with the customs officer.
The individuals involved in this clandestine operation utilized three separate SIM cards for their communication needs. Subsequently, on October 5, law enforcement arrested four individuals for their involvement in gold smuggling, and it was during the course of this investigation that the officer's complicity came to light.
