Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries, MB Patil, engaged in discussions with the management representatives of LAM Research, a global leader in semiconductor equipment and services, regarding the company's interest in establishing a new laboratory within the state. This dialogue occurred during the Minister's current visit to the United States, where he is leading a high-powered delegation aimed at attracting investments across various sectors, including semiconductor, aerospace, defense, automotive/EV, space, and Med-tech.
It's noteworthy that LAM Research has had a presence in Karnataka since 2000, with a Bengaluru campus focused on hardware engineering, global operations management, and software development support. In September, the company obtained approval from the State Level Single Window Committee to establish Engineering, R&D, Testing, and Tool Prototyping facilities for capital goods used in semiconductor and display manufacturing, with an investment of ₹236 crore. LAM Research also aims to contribute to the growth of Indian suppliers and foster connections within Karnataka's existing supplier ecosystem.
During the discussion between the Minister and LAM Research's leadership team, which included Rangesh Raghavan, Corporate Vice President, Karthik Rammohan, Group Vice President, Pat Lord, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer, and Vartan Djihanian, Director of Government Affairs, various aspects of the investment were explored.
In another development, LeoLabs, an influential player in revolutionizing satellite operations, expressed its intention to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for space technology research in Karnataka. The company, known for its suite of 10 radar satellite tracking services that enable automated monitoring of satellite fleets, held discussions with Minister Patil on potential collaborations within Karnataka's space ecosystem. This innovative approach by LeoLabs is reshaping the landscape of space mission monitoring and management, offering crucial insights and support to the rapidly evolving space industry.
Dan Ceperley, Founder and CEO of LeoLabs, and Rachit Bhatia, Lead for Space Safety Analytics and Research, represented the company during the discussions with the Minister.
Furthermore, Tsecond, a growth-stage portfolio company backed by Boeing and Solar Industries India Limited, expressed interest in establishing an R&D Centre in Bengaluru. The company envisions potential future endeavors in assembling and hardware manufacturing within Karnataka as it achieves a sufficient scale of operations. Additionally, Tsecond plans to collaborate with customers in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities within the state.
The discussions involving Tsecond, a company founded in 2020, revolved around its mission to develop technologies that transform how enterprises and organizations harness big data to drive insights and innovation. Their focus is on accelerating the value of the global datasphere by addressing the challenges associated with mass data generation.
The engagement featured the participation of Priyank Kharge, Minister for IT/BT and Science and Technology, S Selvakumar, Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Commerce and Industries, and Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner of Industries. Sahil Chawla, CEO and Co-founder, and Ramesh Singh, Co-founder and Chief Strategist of Tsecond, represented the company during discussions with the Minister.
