Mahua Moitra on charges of cash-for-query: False and frivolous

Mahua Moitra, a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Trinamool Congress, has strongly rejected the allegations made against her in the "cash-for-query" controversy. She characterized the charges submitted to the Parliament's Ethics Committee as "false and frivolous."

In an exclusive conversation with India Today, Moitra addressed the controversy that had arisen and explained, "The charge has been made by a person with an established, acrimonious personal relationship with me who is engaged in a custody battle over a pet. As ridiculous as it may sound, that is the established truth."

This statement was in reference to Jai Anant Dehadrai, a Supreme Court lawyer who is reportedly her estranged partner.

Moitra also criticized Nishikant Dubey, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who had accused her of "posing questions in Parliament in exchange for cash and gifts" from businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

"These charges have been forwarded by an MP who has been in a bitter feud with me for the last three to four years. So, the charges and the very basis of it reaching the Ethics Committee are false and frivolous," Moitra emphasized.

Nishikant Dubey had submitted a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, urging the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate Mahua Moitra.
