Mehbooba Mufti criticizes the Israeli-Palestinian conflict's selective outrage

On Sunday, Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), conveyed her hopes for an end to the ongoing violence between Israelis and the Palestinian group Hamas. She expressed her deep sorrow over the fact that it often requires "death and destruction" for the global community to recognize and engage with the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Mufti fervently prayed for peace to prevail in the region.

In a post shared on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Mufti also took the international community to task for what she termed "criminal" selective outrage. She lamented the pattern where the world remains largely silent as innocent Palestinians endure violence and their homes are destroyed year after year. However, when the situation reverses, and the shoe is on the other foot, she observes that so-called democracies express outrage. Mufti characterized this selective outrage as highly problematic and called for a resolution to the Palestine issue that would pave the way for lasting peace.

Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, echoed similar sentiments, voicing his criticism of the United Nations for its failure to address the long-standing Palestinian issue. In his remarks to reporters, Abdullah emphasized the negative consequences of war, as it inflicts suffering on people. He highlighted the tragic loss of lives among both Israelis and Palestinians due to the ongoing conflict and stressed that war is not a viable solution to any problem.

Abdullah, who also holds the position of Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Srinagar, expressed his disappointment with the UN's inability to effectively address the protracted Palestinian conflict, which has persisted for decades. He noted that the regrettable aspect is the UN's failure to resolve this pressing issue, resulting in the loss of innocent lives.

These statements come against the backdrop of the unprecedented armed escalation between Israel and Palestine, a conflict that has tragically claimed numerous lives and left thousands injured.
