Naxalite captured in Maharashtra with a Rs 16 lakh bounty on his head

In an operation conducted by the police in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, a 48-year-old Naxalite was apprehended, and it was revealed that he carried a substantial reward of Rs 16 lakh on his head. The individual in question, known as Chainuram, also bearing the alias Sukku Watte Korsa, was arrested by law enforcement authorities on a Saturday.

The police had received critical information about the presence of this formidable Naxalite figure, Chainuram alias Sukku Watte Korsa, situated in close proximity to the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border within the jurisdiction of Gadchiroli. Reports suggested that he had been vigilantly monitoring the movements of police personnel at the Jarawandi and Pendhari posts.

Acting on the provided intelligence, law enforcement authorities from the C-60 Gadchiroli unit devised an operational strategy. Their concerted efforts materialized in the successful apprehension of Korsa, as they conducted a meticulously planned operation along the route connecting Jaravandi to Sohgaon.

Chainuram alias Sukku Watte Korsa hails from Tekametta, a locality within Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district. However, the extent of his criminal activities transcends geographical boundaries. The arrested individual was found to have been involved in a range of significant incidents, including a shootout that occurred in Hikker in March of the current year. He was also implicated in seven other encounters and one murder.

Korsa's criminal journey began with his role as a divisional committee member within the Maad supply team in November 2016. Later, he ascended to the position of deputy commander within the team.

The gravity of his offenses was evident in the fact that the government of Maharashtra had placed a bounty of Rs 16 lakh on his capture.

The successful arrest of Chainuram alias Sukku Watte Korsa represents a broader trend in Gadchiroli, where law enforcement has been conducting extensive operations, leading to the apprehension of 71 Naxalite individuals since the beginning of the year 2022. This proactive approach by the Gadchiroli police is part of a broader strategy aimed at curbing the activities of Naxalite factions in the region.

Gadchiroli's Superintendent of Police, Neelotpal, has issued an appeal to the Maoist cadres who remain actively engaged in violence to reconsider their paths and embrace a more dignified and peaceful way of life.
