The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) issued a response on Wednesday to recent media reports concerning a proposed alteration in textbooks, suggesting the use of 'Bharat' in place of 'India'. The council conveyed that it is "too early to provide a comment" on this news.
The NCERT stated, "Given that the development of new syllabi and textbooks is an ongoing process, and as a part of this effort, various Curricular Area Groups consisting of domain experts are being notified by the NCERT, it is premature to make any definitive statements regarding this news."
Furthermore, it was shared that the upcoming series of NCERT books will indeed feature 'Bharat' rather than 'India,' as the proposal for such a change had been unanimously accepted by a committee led by IC Issac, as was previously mentioned.
It's essential to note that this committee forms a part of the 25 panels collectively involved in amending or revising the content contained within NCERT textbooks. These panels, operating at the central level alongside the NCERT, have been assigned the task of adapting the curriculum in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020.
However, it's worth noting that the proposal, at this stage, has been submitted to the NCERT based in Delhi. It is essential to recognize that this proposal stands as a recommendation, and the final verdict on this matter awaits official approval from the NCERT.
Additionally, this committee has suggested the introduction of 'Hindu victories' as a prominent feature and the inclusion of 'classical history' in place of 'ancient history' within these textbooks.
