Nitin Gadkari claims a new road would open shortly and will allow access to Delhi Airport in 20 minutes

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that the recently constructed Urban Extension Road (UER) 2 will significantly reduce travel time from Kundli, located on the Delhi-Haryana border, to Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The travel duration will be slashed from the current two hours to a mere 20 minutes. Gadkari shared this development while engaging with the Indian community in Prague, Czech Republic, highlighting that UER 2 is expected to open for public use in the upcoming two to three months.

Elaborating on this infrastructure project, Gadkari explained, "The UER 2 will reduce the travel time to IGI T3 airport to just 20 minutes, starting from the Kundli border in Delhi, instead of the current two hours. We have also constructed a tunnel road that goes beneath the airstrip to connect directly to T3 of IGI airport."

He further outlined the project's significance, stating, "Upon entering Delhi after Panipat, there is a peripheral ring road. Beyond that, a novel ring road named UER 2 has been developed in Delhi, slated to be inaugurated in the next two to three months. Once this road is operational, commuters will be able to reach T3 airport swiftly in just 20 minutes, compared to the previous two-hour journey. Additionally, we have constructed an extensive tunnel within the road at the Shiv Murti junction, creating a direct connection to T3 beneath the airport's airstrip."

UER 2 holds the distinction of being India's first elevated urban expressway and is expected to alleviate traffic congestion between Delhi and Gurugram. The entire project carries an estimated cost of Rs 9,000 crore.

Gadkari had previously announced that the expressway would be accessible to the public before December.

Key features of the expressway include:

- Stretching over 29 kilometers, it serves as the country's first elevated eight-lane access-controlled expressway.
- Toll collection on the Dwarka Expressway will be fully automated, and the project will incorporate an Efficient Transport System (ITS).
- The expressway's road network comprises four levels, encompassing tunnels, underpasses, grade roads, elevated roads, and flyovers over other flyovers.
- This development will enhance connectivity between Haryana and West Delhi and provide improved access to IGI Airport. In Haryana, the expressway intersects Pataudi Road (SH-26) near Harsaru and Farukhnagar (SH-15A) near Basai.
- It also crosses the Delhi-Rewari railway line near Gurgaon Sector-88 (B) and UER 2 at Bharthal. The expressway connects Global City with Dwarka Sector-21 via various sectors in Gurugram, including 88, 83, 84, 99, and 113.
- Commuters on the Dwarka Expressway are anticipated to complete the journey from Dwarka to IGI Airport in just five minutes, significantly simplifying the movement of Gurugram's residents.
