As a low-pressure area takes shape in the Bay of Bengal on Friday, it appears that the coastal districts of Odisha may experience a dampened Dusshera celebration, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipating rainfall starting from October 23.
The IMD has issued a weather forecast that indicates coastal districts within the state should expect rain between October 23 and 25. The formation of this low-pressure system has been confirmed over the Bay of Bengal, as reported by the India Meteorological Department's regional center in Bhubaneswar.
The forecast further suggests that the system is likely to intensify into a depression by October 23. The exact intensity of the expected rainfall remains uncertain at this stage, with its magnitude depending on the projected path of the depression, according to H R Biswas, the director of the IMD center.
However, dry weather conditions will persist in the state until October 22.
This news of impending rainfall has raised concerns among the organizers of Durga Puja celebrations. They are closely monitoring the weather forecast and making necessary arrangements in anticipation of potential rainfall during the festival. This year, the Navami of Durga Puja falls on October 23, followed by the celebration of 'Dasami' or Dusshera.
