Pakistani spy apprehended by Gujarat ATS in 1999 when he used WhatsApp to track him down

An individual was apprehended by the Gujarat anti-terror squad in Tarapur town of Anand district on Friday. Hailing from Pakistan, he was engaged in dispatching sensitive data to Pakistani agencies and employing malicious software to infiltrate mobile phones for data theft.

The Gujarat ATS had been tipped off by military intelligence that a Pakistani operative was utilizing WhatsApp on an Indian SIM card. This individual was deploying a Remote Access Trojan (RAT) malware to compromise phones and pilfer confidential information, as reported by Gujarat ATS SP Om Prakash Jat.

The SIM card had been registered under the name Muhammad Saklain Thaim and was activated on the mobile phone of Azgar Hajibhai. Following activation, the SIM card was delivered in Anand's Tarapur area to an individual identified as Labhshankar Maheshwari, acting on the directives of an individual connected with the Pakistan Embassy.

Labhshankar Maheshwari, originally from Pakistan, came to India in 1999 and later acquired Indian citizenship. However, his family still resides in Pakistan. It's important to note that the WhatsApp number in question remains active in Pakistan, and it appears they were targeting the family members of Indian Army personnel.
