During a rally in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a revelation on Tuesday, stating that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) had expressed a desire to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections in 2020. However, Modi clarified that he couldn't align himself with KCR due to his actions and conduct.
KCR's political party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has promptly refuted Prime Minister Modi's assertion, with BRS leader Khaleequr Rahman labeling it as a "blatant falsehood."
Addressing the crowd in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recounted the events, saying, "Following the BJP's victory in 48 seats during the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election, KCR sought support. Prior to this election, he used to welcome me at the airport, but later abruptly ceased doing so."
He continued, "After the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, KCR came to visit me in Delhi and expressed his desire to join the NDA. He even requested my support. I informed him (KCR) that, based on his actions, I could not align myself with him."
In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls held in 2020, KCR's BRS fell short of a majority by 21 seats. The BJP secured victory in 48 out of the 150 seats in the civic poll, surpassing its performance in the previous 2015 elections.
A spokesperson for the BRS, M Krishank, criticized the Prime Minister's statement, accusing him of resorting to falsehoods for political gain. Krishank commented, "Next time a Chief Minister visits the Prime Minister, he should take a camera because Narendra Modi can stoop to any low level with lies for political benefits."
During his rally in Telangana's Nizamabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticized the KCR-led government in the state, alleging that it had reneged on all its commitments to the farmers. He assured turmeric farmers in Nizamabad that their produce would be promoted and that a National Turmeric Board would be established.
"The BRS government has broken all their promises made to the farmers of Telangana. But in the last few years, we transferred around Rs 10,000 crores into the bank accounts of 40 lakh farmers. Under the 'One District, One Product scheme,' Turmeric produced in the Nizamabad district is being promoted. As per our promises to the turmeric farmers, the National Turmeric Board will be formed," he declared.
