Police in Bengal bust a drug ring and seize heroin worth Rs 1 crore

The Special Task Force (STF) in West Bengal achieved a significant breakthrough on Sunday by dismantling a drug trafficking network originating in Manipur and Nagaland. During their operation in the Murshidabad district, the STF unearthed a substantial haul of approximately 1.130 kg of heroin, which is estimated to be valued at around Rs 1 crore.

The STF had acted swiftly, prompted by confidential information, leading them to conduct a raid in Murshidabad. As a result of this operation, four individuals involved in drug trafficking were apprehended by the authorities. These individuals have been identified as Md. Meftahul Islam, Marlyn Kholneilhing, Nempi Ngailut, and Ngahneikim Haokip.

Following their arrests, the suspects disclosed that they had sourced the heroin from Dimapur in Nagaland and were in the process of delivering it to Md. Meftahul Islam.

In light of the STF's successful operation, a case was registered at a local police station under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, specifically against the detained individuals.

The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before a special court under the NDPS Act, where the STF intends to request police custody for further investigation.

Furthermore, it's worth noting that on October 1, the STF had previously cracked down on an interstate drug smuggling ring, seizing a substantial quantity of cannabis amounting to 100 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 10 lakh, in Howrah district.
