On Sunday, the Ahmedabad Police and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully confiscated narcotics valued at Rs 150 crore from the Aurangabad district in Maharashtra. Officials have reported the arrest of three individuals in connection with this case. This operation was conducted jointly by the Pune Unit of the DRI and the Ahmedabad Police Crime Branch team, resulting in the seizure of cocaine, mephedrone (MD), and ketamine from two factories and several residences in the Aurangabad district in Maharashtra, as stated by Chaitanya Mandlik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ahmedabad. It has been noted by the police that the prices of the confiscated drugs would substantially increase when sold in the international market.
DCP Mandlik explained that the drug network was successfully dismantled based on specific intelligence inputs received by the Crime Branch. The DRI has since initiated a case, and three arrests have been made in connection with this operation, he further disclosed.
The raid in Maharashtra conducted by the police led to the seizure of cocaine, a potent nervous system stimulant. Additionally, they recovered MD and ketamine, both commonly referred to as party drugs. It is important to note that all these drugs are prohibited in India under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
In addition to the drugs, the police also confiscated Indian currency amounting to Rs 30 lakh from the apprehended individuals. This operation conducted by the DRI underscores the growing usage of synthetic drugs and the unlawful production of these substances in numerous industrial units. It further emphasizes the significance of inter-agency cooperation in India to combat the drug issue within the nation.
