As the annual pilgrimage season at Kerala's Sabarimala approaches, preparations are well underway, with the appointment of the chief priests for the Lord Ayyappa Temple and the Malikappuram Devi Temple. With just a few weeks remaining until the commencement of this significant pilgrimage season, the selection of these religious leaders has been completed.
Reliable sources have disclosed that Mahesh PN, hailing from Putillath Mana near Muvattupuzha, has been chosen to serve as the 'Melshanthi' or chief priest at the Lord Ayyappa Temple. Simultaneously, PG Murali, who belongs to Anjoor Poongat Mana near Guruvayur, has been entrusted with the esteemed position of chief priest at the Malikappuram Devi Temple.
It is noteworthy that Mahesh PN is presently discharging his priestly duties at the renowned Paramekavu Temple situated in Thrissur. On the other hand, PG Murali has been dedicated to serving at the Ayyappa Swami Temple in Hyderabad. The selection of these individuals was carried out by the Travancore Devaswam Board, employing a random draw from a pre-screened group of priests.
These appointed chief priests will serve a term of one year in their respective roles. The upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season is set to commence on November 17, marking a significant event in the religious calendar of the region.
