Pune Cop Wins 1.5 Crore Playing Dream11 Online, But Is Suspended at the End

Somnath Jhende, a sub-inspector with Pune Police who remarkably amassed a wealth of Rs 1.5 crore through his success in the online game Dream11, has faced suspension initiated by the authorities. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police in Pune undertook this action based on allegations of misconduct and actions that were perceived to blemish the reputation of the police department.

The sub-inspector, Somnath Jhende, achieved a substantial financial victory in the widely popular online game, Dream11. As news of his impressive achievement rapidly circulated, it triggered an official response from the police department. Following discussions and apprehensions concerning his behavior, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police launched an investigation into the situation.

The inquiry brought to light that Jhende had engaged in playing the online game without proper authorization. Furthermore, it was reported that he gave interviews to the media while wearing his official police uniform. Consequently, he was relieved of his duties and suspended from active service.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Swapna Gore, who directed the investigation, commented, "The investigation revealed that he participated in the Dream11 game without the necessary permissions, resulting in his suspension. This episode should serve as a lesson to fellow police personnel, cautioning them against engaging in online gaming activities in a similar manner, as they could also find themselves subject to disciplinary measures."

Jhende is expected to provide his statement during the internal departmental investigation, according to the police.
