As is the case every year during this season, the city of Delhi faces a looming threat as the practice of stubble burning in its neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana threatens to create a hazardous mixture that will have detrimental effects on air quality and public health. Given the escalating instances of crop residue burning, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, has fervently appealed to the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab to proactively address and mitigate this situation.
In an effort to convey the growing concerns of the residents of Delhi, who have expressed their apprehensions regarding the surge in crop residue burning cases this year, VK Saxena has directly communicated with the Chief Ministers of the neighboring states.
VK Saxena, in his correspondence to Punjab's Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, reminded both Mann and the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, that they had previously given assurances that the prevalence of crop residue burning would be reduced in the region. The incumbent situation underscores the need for a renewed commitment to address this pressing issue.
Saxena has also extended his urgent call to action to Haryana's Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, emphasizing the immediate necessity to combat this problem effectively.
