A medical college located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has vehemently refuted the reports asserting that 14 children afflicted with Thalassemia had been diagnosed with severe infections following a screening conducted at their hospital.
These reports claimed that these 14 children had unfortunately contracted HIV, Hepatitis B, and C as a result of receiving blood transfusions tainted with infections.
The principal of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) College, Sanjay Kala, took it upon himself to address these allegations during a press conference, where he issued a clear and definitive clarification, denying the occurrence of any such incidents involving contaminated blood transfusions.
In his statement, he emphasized the initiation of stringent actions against Doctor Arun Arya, who had allegedly been responsible for propagating these unfounded rumors.
Upon scrutinizing the histories of these 14 children, it was revealed that they had been receiving blood transfusions for a duration spanning 8 to 10 years. During a screening process conducted at Kanpur's Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital on Monday, these children were indeed tested positive for infections such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV. This development understandably raises concerns, with particular emphasis on the cases of HIV infection, which are profoundly disconcerting.
These revelations have prompted a swift and resolute response from political leaders in the opposition, who have critically assessed the actions of the Yogi Adityanath government.
Taking aim at the ruling BJP, the President of the Indian National Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge, stated that the "double-engine" government has severely deteriorated the state of the healthcare infrastructure, highlighting that this term "double engine" is frequently employed by BJP leaders during their election campaigns to signify the dual advantage of having a BJP government at both the state and central levels.
Kharge further characterized the negligence in this matter as "shameful" and asserted that innocent children are being subjected to the consequences of this reprehensible action on the part of the BJP government.
