The Scotland Police announced on Tuesday that, following a thorough investigation into the incident involving the denial of entry and heckling of Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, at a gurdwara in Glasgow on September 29, 2023, "no criminality" had been found.
A spokesperson for the Scotland Police stated, "After conducting extensive inquiries into a reported disturbance in the Albert Drive area of Glasgow on Friday, September 29, 2023, it has been determined that no criminal activity occurred."
Last week, Vikram Doraiswami was prevented from entering the gurdwara by a group of radical British Sikh activists, who conveyed to him that he was "not welcome." This incident occurred amid an ongoing diplomatic dispute between India and Canada related to the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The following day, India reported the incident to the British government, demanding strict action against those responsible. The High Commission of India in London issued a statement on Saturday, stating that three individuals from outside of Scotland had "intentionally disrupted" the envoy's visit.
A pro-Khalistan Sikh activist provided details of the incident, explaining that some of them had discovered that Doraiswami had a planned meeting with the gurdwara committee of the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive.
"A few individuals arrived and informed him that he was not welcome. There was a minor confrontation," the activist recounted.
"I don't believe the gurdwara committee is pleased with what occurred. Nevertheless, Indian officials are not welcome in any gurdwara in the UK," he asserted.
"We are frustrated with the UK-India collaboration. Recent tensions stemming from Hardeep Singh Nijjar's killing have resulted in British Sikhs being targeted. This is also related to Avtar Singh Khanda and Jagtar Singh Johal," he added.
The Gurdwara Guru Granth Sahib Sikh Sabha, where the Indian envoy was denied entry, issued a statement condemning the incident.
"Glasgow Gurdwara strongly denounces such disruptive behavior that interferes with the peaceful activities of a Sikh place of worship," the statement declared.
The gurdwara described the events of September 29, stating that unidentified individuals from outside the Glasgow area attempted to disrupt Dorwaiswami's visit.
"After the departure of the visitors, these unruly individuals continued to disturb the Gurdwara congregation. Police Scotland subsequently arrived and have taken notice of the situation," the gurdwara explained.
