Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, during an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of renaming Mysuru State as Karnataka, emphasized the significance of promoting the Kannada language within the state. He urged local residents to actively participate in facilitating the learning of Kannada by those who do not speak the language.
At the Department of Kannada and Culture-organized event, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stressed the need to create an environment where Kannada becomes an essential part of life in the state. He emphasized that all individuals residing in Karnataka, regardless of their native language, should strive to learn and embrace Kannada.
Siddaramaiah remarked, "We are all Kannadigas and people from diverse linguistic backgrounds have made Karnataka their home since the unification of the state. It is crucial that everyone living in Karnataka endeavors to acquire proficiency in speaking Kannada."
He also noted that, in some regions of the state, the diaspora does not use Kannada as their language of communication. This situation, he explained, has arisen due to the generosity of Kannadigas in learning other languages rather than emphasizing the importance of their own.
Siddaramaiah highlighted the need to appreciate and respect other languages but also underlined the importance of preserving and nurturing their native language.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that Kannada had held the status of the official language for many years. However, he recognized that negligence might have been a significant factor contributing to the lack of effective implementation of Kannada in various administrative contexts.
