Six Army jawans are among the 17 fatalities from the Sikkim flash flood


A total of eighteen individuals, which includes six army personnel, tragically lost their lives due to a cloudburst occurring over Lhonak Lake situated in North Sikkim. This natural event initiated a flash flood within the Teesta River basin, and as a result, over 90 individuals are currently unaccounted for following the cloudburst that took place in the early hours of Wednesday.

To provide a district-specific overview of the situation, the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) has compiled the following data:

In Mangan District, four lives have been lost, and the whereabouts of 17 individuals remain unknown. Approximately 700 residents from the affected regions have been safely evacuated. This calamity has also resulted in the destruction of eight bridges. Ongoing relief operations are in progress, with a total of 1,715 people being provided shelter at various relief camps.
