The BJP disciplinary committee made the decision to lift the suspension of Telangana MLA T Raja Singh on Sunday. This suspension had been imposed on him after his arrest in August 2022 on allegations of making offensive statements concerning the Prophet Muhammad.
The decision to revoke Raja Singh's suspension has been announced a few weeks prior to the Telangana Assembly election. The BJP had previously released its initial list of candidates for the upcoming polls, with the aim of challenging the incumbent BRS party. Raja Singh expressed his gratitude to the senior BJP leaders at the national level via Twitter for this decision. The BJP has selected him as their candidate for the Goshamahal constituency in the Telangana elections.
Commenting on his nomination for the Telangana elections in the Goshamahal constituency, Raja Singh emphasized that Goshamahal falls under the Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency, which is currently represented by Asaduddin Owaisi, whom he referred to as an "anti-national." He pointed out that he had previously won an election to become the MLA in this area by defeating one of Owaisi's associates. He further accused Owaisi of influencing Muslim votes and mentioned that he had shifted his political affiliations from Congress to BRS. Raja Singh asserted his determination to secure victory in the Goshamahal constituency and counteract those he views as "anti-national."
Kishan Reddy, in an official statement, conveyed that the BJP's Central disciplinary committee had decided to revoke T Raja Singh's suspension following a comprehensive assessment of his response to the show cause notice issued by the party. This decision has been made public for the benefit of all relevant parties.
Raja Singh is known for his staunch advocacy of Hindutva, a term associated with Hindu nationalism. He has been involved in multiple legal cases in Hyderabad, some of which pertain to alleged communal offences.
The Telangana Assembly elections are scheduled for November 30, with the results set to be announced on December 3.
