In response to allegations of receiving foreign funds from the banned terror organization Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), Amarpreet Singh, the head of Khalsa Aid in India, a UK-based non-governmental organization, has tendered his resignation.
A letter dated October 8, which has surfaced on social media and is purportedly issued by Khalsa Aid, explains the organizational changes made within the NGO. It emphasizes the organization's commitment to ensuring the smooth operation of its management structure and being accountable to the public. These changes have been implemented to facilitate the efficient functioning of operations in Punjab and across India, according to the letter.
It is worth noting that in August, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), an anti-terror agency, conducted a raid at Khalsa Aid's India headquarters in Patiala. During the operation, the agency confiscated documents and two mobile phones belonging to Amarpreet Singh. Additionally, the NIA team searched Amarpreet Singh's residence, located in the Patiala area, in connection with the attack on an Indian mission in London on March 19. He was also questioned regarding the source of funds and details of volunteers associated with the NGO.
Sources indicate that Khalsa Aid came under the scrutiny of the NIA after a case was registered against the US-based terrorist organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) in 2021, during the farmer agitation. The investigative agency alleged that SFJ had channeled foreign funds through NGOs to support "pro-Khalistan elements" in disseminating anti-India propaganda.
It's noteworthy that Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent SFJ member, was killed in Canada in July of the current year.
While Amarpreet Singh has not provided a comment on the matter, officials from the Patiala Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have confirmed his resignation from the position of Khalsa Aid's India chief.
