Two boys are among the dead in a fire at a residential building in Kandivali, Mumbai


A tragic incident unfolded when a massive fire engulfed the first floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Kandivali area on Monday, leading to the loss of two lives and leaving three individuals injured. The victims, tragically, include an eight-year-old boy named Josu Gems Robert and a 43-year-old woman named Glory Walphati.

The fire initially erupted at approximately 12:30 p.m. within the confines of the Veena Santur Cooperative Housing Society. Its flames rapidly spread to the electric wiring and installations on the first floor, as reported by authorities.

Among the injured survivors, two women, identified as Lakshmi Bura (40) and Rajeshwari Bhartare (24), were affected, along with another individual, Ranjan Subodh Shah (76). These survivors are currently receiving medical treatment, with Bhartare having suffered 100 per cent burn injuries, while the others sustained burns covering up to 50 per cent of their bodies, as indicated by civic body officials.

To combat the fierce blaze, a contingent of eight fire engines was promptly dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been conclusively determined. Fire officials have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the details and circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
