On Saturday, a 27-year-old man with special needs was detained after allegedly exhibiting unruly behavior and "misbehaving" aboard an IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Patna, identified as IndiGo flight 6E 126.
The individual in question, named Mohammed Kamar Riyaz, reportedly locked himself inside one of the flight's bathrooms. Following the flight's landing, he was promptly handed over to the police.
According to Vinod Peter, the Station House Officer (SHO) at Patna Airport, the airlines have filed a complaint against the man for causing a disturbance and displaying inappropriate and unruly conduct while onboard the flight.
Initial inquiries, along with an examination of medical documents and a statement from his brother, who was traveling with him, suggest that Riyaz may be grappling with a mental health condition.
Professionally, Riyaz is a mechanical engineer and hails from West Champaran in Bihar. He embarked on the flight from Ahmedabad, where his elder brother resides, in order to seek treatment in Patna for his ailment.
At present, Riyaz is receiving medical care at a private hospital in Patna. The SHO indicated that the police will continue to monitor his activities.
