When Jaishankar compared India-US relations to Chandrayaan, he said, to the Moon and beyond


External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar provided insights into the evolution of India-US relations during his speech at the 'Colors of India' event held in Washington, DC. He highlighted that in the past, the two nations used to engage with each other, but today, they collaborate closely.

Jaishankar referenced memorable visits, such as Rajiv Gandhi's trip in 1985 and Dr. Manmohan Singh's visit in 2005 during the nuclear deal negotiations. He pointed out that things have changed significantly, emphasizing that India and the US now view each other as comfortable partners.

In the changing global landscape, Jaishankar expressed that both countries have reached a stage where they consider each other highly desirable, optimal, and comfortable partners. He noted that it has become natural to engage in conversations and collaborate across various government departments.

Reflecting on the transformation of India-US ties, Jaishankar shared his own experiences from the early eighties when explaining one's background and purpose was necessary. He commended the broad and deep relationship that has developed over the years.

Jaishankar also acknowledged the critical role played by the United States in the success of the G20. He emphasized that the support and understanding received from the US were instrumental in making the G20 a triumph.

Addressing the audience, Jaishankar underscored the significance of the India-US partnership and urged continued support for its growth. He expressed optimism that this relationship, akin to Chandrayaan's journey to the moon, may even go beyond, alluding to the potential for further collaboration between the two nations.

Furthermore, Jaishankar mentioned India's achievements, such as Chandrayaan-3, CoWIN, and advancements in technology like 5G, emphasizing that the United States recognizes India's capabilities and is eager to collaborate closely with this new India.
