"Assist on the way": A man trapped in a car in heavy rain is rescued by Chennai Police

Amidst the persistent rainfall brought on by Cyclone Michaung in Chennai, a man found himself stranded inside his vehicle in the Jamalia area of the city. Desiring assistance, he reached out to the Chennai Police through X (formerly Twitter), providing precise details of his location.

In his plea for help, the man shared on the social media platform, "Hi, Got stuck in Perambur - Jamalia, inside the car. Getting out. Need help! 8508257282 - Please call us. Attaching my exact location."

The prompt response from the Chennai Police assured the distressed individual, stating, "Do not panic. The team will assist you." Adding to this, Tamil Nadu's Minister of Industries, T R B Rajaa, also affirmed that help was on the way.

In a matter of minutes, the man was successfully rescued from his predicament. Expressing gratitude, he posted, "Thanks for the timely response. We got away from Jamalia to the SPR CITY entrance. We are safe and looking for a mechanic to start the car with a battery. Once again, Heartful thanks. Please stay safe."

Acknowledging the successful resolution, the Chennai Police later tweeted that the individual and his car were relocated to a secure location.

The heavy rainfall, a consequence of Cyclone Michaung's approach towards the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coasts, led to severe waterlogging and rain-related incidents across Chennai. This weather event resulted in unfortunate casualties, with two reported deaths. The city faced significant challenges, such as waterlogging near several metro stations, including the St Thomas metro station where water accumulation reached up to 4 feet, obstructing access to the station. Passengers were advised to board the metro train at Alandur due to these challenging conditions. The inclement weather conditions underscored the urgency for coordinated responses to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the affected areas.
