At 17, a California boy passes the state bar test and is sworn in as an attorney

A law clerk at a county prosecutor's office, Peter Park, has reportedly achieved the remarkable milestone of passing the State Bar of California exam at the age of 17, according to a statement issued by the Tulare County District Attorney's Office. The office, in its announcement this week, claims that Peter Park is, based on their research, the youngest individual to successfully navigate the rigorous exam.

While the State Bar, in an email to The Associated Press on Friday, indicated its inability to officially confirm Park's status as the youngest exam passer, it acknowledged and praised his exceptional accomplishment. Leah Wilson, the Executive Director, remarked, "Passing the California Bar exam is a major accomplishment at any age, and for someone as young as Mr. Park, it is quite an extraordinary feat and one worth celebrating."

According to details provided by the District Attorney's office this week, Park undertook the challenging exam in July and subsequently received the test results on November 9. In a statement, Park expressed, "It was not easy, but it was worth it."

Park's academic journey reflects his early entrance into high school at Oxford Academy in Cypress, California, in 2019, commencing at the age of 13. Simultaneously, he embarked on a four-year juris doctor program at the Northwestern California University School of Law, having successfully completed college-level proficiency exams. Having graduated from high school in 2021 through the state's proficiency exam, he concentrated on law school, completing it this year. Subsequently, Park joined the District Attorney's office as a law clerk in August, celebrated his 18th birthday in late November, and was officially sworn in as an attorney on Tuesday.
