In response to the recent resurgence of past remarks made by Revanth Reddy, who assumed the position of Telangana Chief Minister, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Member of Parliament, Ravi Shankar Prasad, launched a verbal critique against the Congress party. This condemnation was prompted by Reddy's comments regarding his political rival, former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, where he asserted that Rao's genetic makeup had roots in Bihar.
During a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, Prasad expressed concern over what he characterized as a peculiar strategy by Congress leaders to foster division within the nation. Specifically, he highlighted the emergence of a narrative segregating the North and South regions of the country. Quoting Revanth Reddy, Prasad stated that the Telangana Chief Minister had proclaimed, "Our DNA is superior to Bihar's DNA," insinuating that the defeated CM Rao shared ancestral ties with Bihar due to a common caste lineage with Nitish Kumar.
Prasad went on to reveal another instance where a Congress leader purportedly insinuated a "North-South" divide in the country. Questioning the ethical boundaries that the Congress party was willing to breach for relevance, Prasad expressed dismay at the alleged attempts to sow discord.
Notably, Congress leader Praveen Chakravarty, following a shift in election results on December 3, made a comment on a social media platform, suggesting the reinforcement of a "South-North boundary line." Although he later deleted the post, Prasad seized the opportunity to underscore the divisive rhetoric circulating within the Congress ranks.
Furthermore, Prasad criticized the top leadership of the Congress party, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, for attending Revanth Reddy's swearing-in ceremony without compelling him to retract his controversial statement beforehand.
Emphasizing the need for the Congress party to refrain from politicizing issues related to the cultural and social unity of the country, Prasad directed a query to Janata Dal (United) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, questioning his silence on Revanth Reddy's remarks.
In a broader context, Prasad alleged that Rahul Gandhi strategically chose to contest the Lok Sabha elections from both Amethi, located in the North, and Wayanad in Kerala, attributing this decision to the higher Muslim and Christian populations in the latter region. This accusation further contributed to the narrative of Congress allegedly exploiting regional and religious demographics for electoral gains.
