Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah faced criticism during an interview for seemingly forgetting the name of Captain MV Pranjal, who lost his life in a Jammu and Kashmir encounter with terrorists on November 22. Additionally, Siddaramaiah appeared to have difficulty recalling when the compensation amount for Captain Pranjal's family was announced.
In response to a question about the timeline of the compensation announcement, Siddaramaiah sought information from reporters about who made the announcement and when it occurred. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya expressed his disappointment with the Chief Minister's apparent lapse in memory in a post on X, describing it as "unfortunate."
Tejasvi Surya highlighted the Chief Minister's perceived arrogance and ingratitude toward Captain Pranjal's sacrifice, emphasizing that Siddaramaiah's casual reference and apparent forgetfulness about the compensation promise were disheartening. Surya noted that he had requested compensation for Captain Pranjal's family on the same night his mortal remains arrived in Bangalore. The compensation announcement, as reported by the media, was made by an official, Surya explained in his post.
However, Surya pointed out that until two days ago, when he reached out to Captain Pranjal's parents, no representative from the state government had contacted the family. Captain Pranjal, a 29-year-old from 63 Rashtriya Rifles, tragically lost his life in a firefight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri. Siddaramaiah, expressing grief at the time, had announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the martyr's family.
