The inauguration ceremony for the recently elected Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, is scheduled to take place on Friday, December 8. Notably, Lalduhoma's Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) secured a substantial victory in Mizoram, claiming 27 out of the 40 assembly seats and displacing the incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF). The aforementioned swearing-in ceremony is slated for December 8, marking a pivotal moment in Mizoram's political landscape.
Adding to the unfolding events, a gathering of the newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from the Zoram People's Movement is set to convene at Lalduhoma's residence in Aizawl at 8 pm on the same day.
In the wake of the resounding triumph in the state elections, ZPM leaders, including Baryl Vanneihsangi, who stands as the youngest woman MLA of Mizoram, participated in a worship service at the party office in Aizawl. This underlines the significance and celebratory atmosphere surrounding the recent electoral success.
Lalduhoma, a venerable 74-year-old figurehead of the Zoram People's Movement, commenced his professional journey as an officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS), initially serving in the coastal state of Goa. Subsequently, he was transferred to Delhi, where he assumed the role of overseeing the security of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Following his tenure in the IPS, Lalduhoma founded the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), etching his name in history by securing a seat in the Lok Sabha in 1984.
However, his political trajectory encountered a challenge when he became the first Member of Parliament to face disqualification under the anti-defection law. Despite this setback, Lalduhoma remained committed to his work in the northeastern state and maintained a notable presence in the political arena.
During the most recent Assembly elections, he emerged as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Zoram People's Movement, which was led by the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) coalition. The electoral process in Mizoram took place on November 7, with the vote counting concluded on December 4. Following the defeat of the MNF, the then-incumbent Chief Minister, Zoramthanga, submitted his resignation to Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati at Raj Bhavan. The upcoming swearing-in ceremony symbolizes a significant transition in leadership and governance for Mizoram under Lalduhoma's stewardship.
